Getting Down to Business with Shred Trust
Friday, June 04, 2010 SUSIE GHARIB: And as we wrap up on this jobs Friday, we turn to small businesses, long hailed as the engine of American job growth. We`re kicking off a new occasional series with small business owners. We`re asking them for their take on the economy and the recovery, in their own words. Here`s tonight`s "Getting Down to Business."
ANDREW BLOOM, PRESIDENT, SHRED TRUST: My name is Andrew Bloom. My company is Shred Trusts and it`s a mobile document destruction company operating in southeast Florida for about four and a half years. Paper, that is predominantly what we shred and destroy. We shred about 125 tons of paper each month. We`ll pick up their sensitive documents, whether it`s on a weekly basis, a monthly basis or even a will-call which is the most cost effective for our customers. We`ll shred their sensitive information right in the parking lot. I think the economy slowed down in our third year and then the growth started to plateau a little bit. But we were still growing. It was much more gradual. And up until January of this year, it was almost like a light switch, where we started really getting busy.
And now I think we`re right at the cusp of needing another shred truck, which is pretty exciting. Now I have to worry about getting the financing. And I have to speak to my finance company. The rates are pretty high right now and that`s a big worry of mine. That`s a big concern over the next few months. I don`t want to lose business because I don`t have that next truck. It is a competitive market out there. I would love to hire as many people as I can and grow this company as quickly as I can. We need some incentives to try to help a small businessman build a company. Help us with our employee taxes. Help us with health insurance. There are many ways -- green credits because we`re a green company. There are many ways that the government could step in and help me build this company and hire more employees and help this economy get stimulated.
HUDSON: Andrew tells us that paper prices are pretty high and Susie that`s a good thing because they sell all that shredded paper.
GHARIB: I think we`re going to be hearing from other small business owners who are going to be talking about some of the same issues, jobs, getting bank financing, a lot of the same themes. |
